Quill & Scroll Magazine
The official publication of Quill and Scroll, the International Honorary Society for High School Journalists. Publishes announcements and reports of the Society’s contests and activities and carries up-to-date and authoritative information about careers in journalism and developments in the field of journalism teaching. The largest magazine devoted exclusively to the field of high school publications filled with articles, pictures, news items and helpful hints for students and advisers. Keeps advisers and students informed of the latest developments and current practices in the production of good school media. Published four times during the school year and mailed approximately the first of November, January, March and May.

To be eligible for a Quill and Scroll charter, your high school must publish a magazine, newspaper, yearbook or produce a Web page. Students may also be eligible if they are under the supervision of a local publication, radio or television station. As soon as your application is approved, you will receive your charter packet, including a student recommendation form. A copy of your publication and the $50 charter fee should accompany this application. NO ANNUAL DUES ARE ASSESSED.

MEMBERSHIP
The charter is granted to the school and includes all journalism programs and publications. Only charter member schools may submit student names for membership. Recommendation forms are included in the new charter packets. According to the Constitution, members of Quill and Scroll must be chosen from the students enrolled in the high school who, at the time of their election, meet the following requirements: 1. They must be of junior or senior classification; second semester sophomores may be initiated during the last grading period of their sophomore year; their membership becoming effective at the beginning of their junior year. 2. They must be in the upper third of their class in general scholastic standing, either for the year of their election, or for the cumulative total of all of their high school work. 3. They must have done superior work in some phase of journalism or school publications work, such as writing, editing, business management or production. 4. They must be recommended by the supervisor or by the committee governing publications. 5. They must be approved by the Society’s Executive Director.
There are no annual dues. When a student is accepted for membership, he or she pays an initiation fee of $15.00. The Society supplies each new member with an official membership pin or charm, membership card and a one-year subscription to Quill & Scroll magazine.
